England have successfully managed to defend the Women’s Six Nations title after the fourth round game between France and Scotland finished in a draw.
England had already played four games before the tournament was suspended due to the pandemic coronavirus and had won all four to claim the top place in the table with 19 points.
For the red rose team to be challenged, France had to win their game against Scotland that was played at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday but the encounter finished in a 13-13 draw. As a result, France have 13 points from four games and even a bonus point win over Ireland in the final round will take their total to 18 – which is one less than England’s current tally of 19.
“We are delighted to have retained the title after four big performances from the team to date,” said head coach Simon Middleton.
“It’s a fitting reward for all the hard work put in earlier this year.
“We have a big week ahead and the aim is to stay focussed on securing the Grand Slam in Italy next weekend.”
This is England’s 16th Six Nations title and they have a chance to clinch the Grand Slam as they line-up against Italy at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi on 1st November.
