Bath Rugby have registered their first win in the ongoing Gallagher Premiership season as they defeated Worcester Warriors 17-33 in the third round at Sixways.
The win has taken Bath to fifth place in the table with six points while Worcester are at 11th place after losing two out of the three matches.
Duncan Weir started the proceedings with a sixth minute penalty goal and in the 8th minute Bath suffered a double setback with Josh Matavesi and Rhys Priestland leaving the field following head injuries.
The visitors seized their lead with Zach Mercer diving from close range in the 21st minute and seven minutes later Max Wright intercepted a pass from Weir to dot down. Ben Spencer kicked both the conversions to take the scoreline to 3-14.
An extended first half came to an end with Bath scoring their third try through lock Josh McNally as Bath headed into the break with a 21-3 lead.
Worcester’s problems compounded when Anton Bresler was sin-binned in the 51st minute for repeated infringements and Stuart Hooper’s men immediately responded making use of the numerical advantage with tries from Elliott Stooke and Semesa Rokoduguni to take their lead to 30 points.
Perry Humphreys and Nick David crossed over the line in the final quarter but Bath managed to secure a 16-point victory despite Josh Bayliss’ yellow card in the 77th minute.
