Lyon came up with a clinical performance as they outplayed Gloucester Rugby 55-10 in their Heineken Champions Cup opener.

Gloucester starting line-up had eight players making their debut and their inexperience was evident as the French side looked dominating throughout the game.

Xavier Mignot started the proceedings early with a 10th minute try and Wisniewski kicked the conversion. As the opening quarter was about to end, Noa Nakaitaci and Izack Rodda scored further tries as they raced to a 19-0 lead.

Even though Gloucester responded back with a try from Seb Nagle-Taylor, Lyon went on to claim the bonus point through Mathieu Bastareaud’s touchdown in the 23rd minute making the scoreline 26-7 before Barton slotted a penalty goal for the visitors.

Lyon dominated the opening exchanges in the second half as Charlie Ngatai scored a try after which Mignot completed a hat-trick with touchdowns in 51st and 61st minutes. Wisniewski also kicked seven points in the phase taking Lyon to a 48-10 lead.

Dylan Cretin further extended Lyon’s winning margin as he crossed the whitewash in the 73rd minute with Berdeu’s conversion ensuring they sealed a 45-point win.
